| the line for the one SF advance screening was ridiculous

| This is a thinking person's action thriller. Many intricate details (technical and cultural) are presented in fast-paced, yet cohenrent, short-hand. The more simple-minded might be overwhelmed, though. Crow phones his perfomance in, but DiCaprio delivers more than enough to carry both ends of the star double billing. Mark Strong steals every scene he's in, but in no other way did Mick LaSalle and I see the same film. LaSalle completely missed the point of Ferris' deep respect for "Middle Eastern" culture, while striving to fight a questionably "honorable" fight against a calculated terrorist element. There really should have been more than one advance screening in SF, to build up more diverse word-of-mouth for this film. Like who read the book? The TV ads running in SF are completely out-of context. |
